The Dominion is a master planned community that was developed in 1983. The first homes that where built in the Dominion occurred in 1983 or 1984. The community manual states that the purpose for developing the association is to organize and promote the health and safety, security and welfare of its members, and to provide maintenance, repair, and preservation of Common Properties.

The geography of The Dominion is that it's located in the North Central Side of San Antonio. The Dominion is approximately 23 miles from downtown with a commute of about 29 -45 minutes. The Dominion has 3 main entrances into its subdivision; the first entrance is located on the access road off highway 10; the second entrance is located Tejas road, and the third entrance is located near Boerne Stage Road. The entrance into the Dominion is very long and beautiful; the main entrance passes the golf community/retirement community the Dominion Country Club. The Dominion features several different types of lots with different views of the city. The Real Estate there is private in nature because the community back up to Camp Bullis (A Large Military Base).
The Dominion offers some excellent shopping; it is located close by the Rim shopping center that includes one of the best and largest theatres in San Antonio (The Palladium).
